OK Foxman, Here goes... I bought a used .270 BAR, ( a hard one to bore-sight..) I didn't want to waste a lot of time and ammo at the range, so I just happened to have a little cheap laser pointer, I picked it up at a gas station for about $5 or so, ( my dog loves to chase the red dot..) I then positioned the pointer in the chamber of the BAR light down the bore, and it took some expermenting to get the light point to go straigt out the barrel..( this is best tested with a piece of white paper.. or a wall.. about a foot in front of the rifle. If you get a bright little red dot, you got it.. if you get a bunch of difused light, the beam is hitting the rifling and not perfectly aligned with the bore.. it took some 'fooling-around-with' to get it right) When you got it good at 1 foot, try it at say..15 feet.. I got mine to be visible out at 60 yards, at night, secured the rifle, and brought the crosshairs of the scope to the red dot. ( I did this with a cardboard box, with notches cut in it to lay the rifle in, on our dining room table, and out the patio doors..) I took the rifle to the range and it was "dead-nuts" on at 100 yds. I have done this since with a Tikka bolt and a Remington 7600 pump and it works great.. Note..it works best to take the clip out or lower the magazine so as not to interfere with the alignment of the laser pointer with the bore. I hope this helps, if you try it, just be patient, getting the beam to be straight down the bore is the hard part, let me know if I can help... Bob

Very nice tip... I'd dare say you got lucky shooting right on and we shouldn't expect the same results, but just being close enough at 25-30 yards to zero would really help save the old shoulder for me :D

Clyde... How True... I would have been happy if it was 'on the paper' at 100 yds, as it was it was an inch low, about 7 o'clock, 5 clicks and I had it. I used to work in a gun shop, used the collet style bore sighters and no matter how carefull one was, some rifles were off 3 or 4 feet at 100 ( loose bores??) Hope this helps some shooters..Bob

they were selling lazer pointers for keychain fobs a while back and were putting them in cartridge cases.I know of one guy that found one in 30-06,removed the key stuff and slipped it down the tube.workes great, and turns on when he closes the bolt.

my uncle works for an engineering and deesign firm that specializes in aftermarket product annd one of his buddies made a bore sighter by sticking a small laser ainto a spent 06 shell withthe prrimer punched it was dead center the fist time he stuck it in the barreland he managed to get 1\2'' groups at 15o yds with this systen with only minimal tweaking
