I am torn over which brand and power of scope to get. I am kind of sold on Leupold V-X III, Nikon Monarch, and Zeiss Conquest. Most of the people that I talk to tell me these are all good scopes, but that the Zeiss is their garbage model and not worth the money. I question that a little and ask for your oppinions on all three. I am also torn on whether to get a 3-9x40 or a 4-10/12x40. I am going to mainly hunt in upstate New York where it is mainly woods and brush, but there are also those break out areas to fields. I am also thinking of the range and that it would be nice to have a piece of glass to reach out there.
Any ideas. I don't want to spend the bank, but am willing to throw down some decent money for a better scope.
I have a Sako 30-06 and need to spend a buck on good glass....at least the few I have left after spending a bank on that high dollar shooting iron.
Thanks a Ton!!!

"The Zeiss is their garbage model and not worth the money"? Man, you need to quit talkin' to fools.
I think the Zeiss is a very good scope. I recently got a 3x9 Conquest, and I am deeply impressed by it. I also have a very high opinion of the Leupold V111, and the Nikon Monarch.
I hunt in NY,too. I think the 3x9 is all the power you need for deer hunting- the 4x12 power range is not needed, and it just adds weight and bulk.
Buy the Zeiss, and forget what people say- or buy the others, same deal. You'll be getting excellent glass, whichever one you choose.

I'm sure not calling Zeiss garbage. I looked into them as a possibility because I have always thought Zeiss as the finest optical manufacturor in the world. However, this new Conquest line is far more inexpensive than their usual high cost stuff and it leads one to wonder if they are just trying to get into a market that they had never been in. Is it the same quality? The cost of the Conquest series is comprable to most good or great quality scopes in other brands and that is why I am thinking....."heck, for just a few more bucks..I can get a Zeiss." Anyway....that's why I wanted "in the know" opinions 'cause I don't.

You don't ruin one of the best names in the business just for kicks. If it's Zeiss it's good.

IMHO 4-12 is for varmints

1st Zeiss (by a long way)
2nd Leupold
3rd Nikon
