If you had to list your top ten surplus arms (rifles or handguns)favorites what would they be? I have thought about this a bit and would submit the following:

Kar98k
M1 Garand
VZ-24
U.S 1917 Enfield
1911A1
1903 Springfield
98/29 Radom
VIS Model 35 Radom
P-38
Luger

I would like to hear your preferences. All the best...

For me: 1911, M-1 Garand, Browning P-35, Walther PP....
Those are all fun to shoot at the range.
I'm extremely fond of 98 Mauser actions, but more as the basis for a custom rifle than in their original military condition.

I didn't see my favorite listed, but it's the Swedish M96 mauser in 6.5x55. My first winter in Canada nearly made me stir crazy from the cold and the length of the season. I bought an old M96 and decided to restore it to pass the time. I made it an annual project for a few years, ending up with three. I'm amazed how accurate those old buggers are, and the recoil won't turn me into a spastic cripple. I think they are real sweethearts, but that's merely one man's opinion. Best wishes.

1.Model 98 large ring Mauser -But used for the action only.
Rebarreled with a new bolt shroud/safety and a new stock this
makes a premium rifle for moderate price. Actually more expensive
than an off the shelf Savage/Ruger ect but with a Shilen barrel
very hot.
2. Swedish M38 mauser-6.5x55 calibre and not as old as most
98s.
3.303 enfield - Good deer calibre and usually pretty accurate as
is.
4.30/40 Kraig - Harder to find good rifles recently but if you do
they make good sporters.
5. 1903 Springfield 3006.
6. M1 carbine - plinker
7. Mosin Nagant.
8. AK classic.
9.SKS - cheap/fun to shoot
10.Whatever....

I'd have to pick the first ten I could get my hands on...there are plenty of them around here but you'll pay for them sometimes, too.

I love my Number 1 Mk III, i can hit the metal turkeys at 385metres and standard battle sights. I just love SMLE's but a nice Bren gun wouldn't be too bad!

I have found a really good surplus arms dealer in the area and will visit them today. He has lots of eye candy on the racks. It really takes me back to see bunches of military surplus arms all over the place. All the best...

You encounter quite a few British .303s in Canada, used largely as moose rifles. They do the job quite well, and are still popular after all these years. I'm a recent convert and really like them. Best wishes.
