I finally got to try out those Axis arrows topped with Muzzy 100's. I did get to take a couple of Jack Rabbits prior to these 2 deer but arrowing a rabbit is not much of a test for an arrow..
Well down here is the Central TX zone Sunday was the last day for bucks. I haven't shot ANY deer this season and I was really going nuts. I went over to my friends 20 acres where I keep my wild hogs in a pen and as I was walking down to the pen I noticed a couple of deer in the brush. I stopped and watched for a couple of minutes and realized that there were 7 deer in the group and 4 bucks. 3 of them were 8-Pointers and a 7 pointer. I snuck back to my truck and got my PSE Durango and 2 arrows. I crouched down in a brush blind that I made for my son and I that was about 40 yards from the edge of the tree line. I grunted a few times but they didn't react at all. After about 10 minutes a doe and one of the 8 pointers started my way. I shot this small 8 at 23 yards. It ran about 12 yards and piled up in a tree. It was a perfect heart shot. I was really wanting the scrappy looking 7 pointer but he never came close .This was at about 1230 pm on Sunday..Just LUCK for sure that my timing was just right. Here are a couple of pics..It's not a wall hanger by no means but it will make some nice sausage..

Well my evening hunt was at the same place and I had a chance to throw out some sweet feed and corn and I sat till dark just a few hours after I shot the first buck. About 10 minutes before I could not see anymore The same 7 pointer(from earlier) came out with a nubbin buck. It walked to about 18 yards and it too got an arrow through the heart :D
The bad part about this buck was that after I started skinning it I found a massive tumor/growth under his scrotum and found that he had all kinds of growths in his guts as well. I didn't want to risk eating him with some funky disease in him so I threw him to the yotes..To make thing worse I cut my hand pretty deep while I was skinning him and had to go to the ER and get 4 stiches..Oh well. At least I finally filled a couple of tags for this season. One deer in the cooler, a deer thrown in the creek and a HUGE Emergency Room bill for some stiches..All in a days hunt..
