I really enjoyed the "3 guns to hunt the world thread". SO why not bring it a little closer to home. Which 3 rifles would you choose to hunt North America? This includes Alaska. I am going to assume you have a .22 LR so you won't waste a centerfire choice on that one. I noticed most of you made that a condition in the last thread. My choices:

.243 Win. for varmits, coyotes, and whitetail deer;

.270 Win. for mule deer, black bear, caribou, sheep, elk;

.338 Mag for trophy elk, moose, and the big bears.

Good hunting!!! TJ :D

my favorites:

22-250, 6,5 swede or 260 remington and 458 win mag.

I will keep it simple, and hopefully ammo I could buy anywhere.

.22-250, .30-06, and a .338 Win Mag.

From the smallest to the largest.

.223, .308 and a .375 H&H.

Hmmm...seems like I typed that once before, LOL!

For me Alaska can be ruled out also since I don't get up that way. For my needs a 7nn Rem.Mag. is enough to take care of the big stiff. My Remington Classic in 6.5x55 is quite good for virtually all deer and anything smaller will encounter a well tuned .22-250. I have quite a few other calibers but don't feel the need for them. Just one mans opinion. Best wishes.

Only 3 huh, well, if I had to have a limit:

22-250
30-06
375 H&H

I must have missed that 3 guns to hunt the world thread, but I'd say make it one gun to hunt the world, .375H&H, one planet, one caliber, Waidmannsheil, Dom.

Oh let's see now, this time I'll go with .220 Swift, .280 Rem. and maybe a .35 Whelen.

The list would probably be different later today, but for now, I'll go with these.

If a .30-06 can't bring it down, I ain't man enough to shoot it:D

Right down to it, I'd be fine with a .22 rimfire and a .30-06. I'd give up the third rifle for a good handloader & manuals for the .30-06.

Old School 1) .22lr 2) .30/30win 3).45/70gvt.

New School 1) .22mag 2) .308win 3) .458Lott

I would also want to be able to hand load for #2 and #3 choices

In 1961 the late Clyde Ormond picked the .243 Winchester, 7x61S&H and the .338 Winchester. I liked his picks then, but today the .257 AI Roberts, .300 Weatherby and the .338 Winchester would be mine.

Probably a .223, 30-06, and a .416 Rem just to be a bit different. LOL! But in reality, what fun would 3 guns be?:D ;)

Guess, I'd have to figure out what gets used the most. Have to go with flow on the 22-250, 30-06 and then the 45-70. Hate to leave the rest of them in the safes though, they're all fun to shoot.

.223 30-06 338 Win Still hard to find .338 every where...

I think the 220 swift, 300 RUM, and 45-70 should do it all.

In no particular order I would choose:

CZ 6.5X55
Tika 6,5X55
Winchester 6.5X55 (if your lucky enough to find one)

These three choices will do it all.

Hello Baylian,

For me and hunting, it would be the versatility and reload-ability of these calibers.

.22 magnum Lots of punch for small game, and Javelina sized animals

25-06 Rem. P-dogs to Antelope sized game

.300 Win Mag Feral Hogs to Kodiak

Peace,
Talon:cool:

I'll get specific. :)

Varmints:
Remington Model 700 VSF .22-250 Rem topped with a Swarovski Habicht PV 4-16X50mm P

Deer to elk:
Ruger No. 1 K1B 7mm STW with a Bushnell Elite 4200 2.5-10X40mm

Moose and bear:
Sako M75 Hunter .375 H&H with a Leupold VX-III 1.5-5X20mm Illuminated Reticle

Dom

Just remember, the question was 'to hunt the world' so all those calibers under .375H&H would not meet the minimum requirements in some countries to hunt with, i.e., dangerous game on the dark continent . . .

We'll have to make it four calibers to hunt the world with, course for me it's something like 20 and counting . . .

Dom, that was the other thread, this particular thread is North America only.

You're exactly right gumpokc, my bad, that's what I get for 'speed reading' -- All those 300s & 338s are safe in NA !!

A 25-06 will handle varmints, deer, antelope and other medium game while the 338 can handle moose elk and bear :) I only need 2 :D Perhaps a 50cal ML for fun

Here are my 3 choices-

243 Win. for varmits, rock chucks, coyotes

.270 Win. for deer, black bear, caribou, sheep,

.30-338 Mag for elk, moose, and the big bears.

MacD37

#1. 22 lr

#2. 30-06

#3. 375H&H

But I could get along fine with a 243Win, a 7mm Mag, and 375 H&H, for the whole world! Since, however, I'm not restricted to only three rifles, my list would, and does, cover the world a lot better than any three rifles anyone could name! ;)

Heck, come to think of it I'm doing it right now with just a .22 rimfire and a .300 Win. Mag.
