seems like this trapping thing is going a bit easier than i had expected. so far everytime an oppussum or skunk i spotted in the yard i get 'em within' a day or two of setting a trap out. now keep in mind i only set out a trap if an animal is spotted. the set i've been making is a hole about 4" around with some fruit or fish placed in it and a #160 coni placed over the hole then staked by the chain. sure enough my catch rate is 100%. 2 oppossums, 2 skunks so far and this is in a residential neighborhood.

not boasting, just cheking if i'm missing something here.

I hate to be negative but I hope you don't end up with the neighbor kids cat in your 160.

You have to careful setting any conibear due to the fact that any thing that gets into it comes out dead.

yep,i set a 160 in a cubby with sardines in it out in the woods and cought a wild house cat,it lived thogh, after it tore me and my dad up

There is a way to dog proof coon size coiinbear traps so that they will still catch coon but not dogs.

You build a box to hold the trap just like a box cubby. The difference is that the box is fastened on a tree with the opening down and about 6 inches off the ground. The coon will be able to get to the trap but a dog will not be able to twist its way under the box and get into the trap.

Bait your cubbies with sweets. Most dogs and cats aren't interested but coons are.Try jelly or sweet rolls.

Aint sure where you guys are but in N/E MN berries are a big part of even a canines diet... Grape,raspberry and strawberry work well for fox,yote and feral....
Coon cuffs are a better bet for dog proof...
Ever tried the gallon cider jug with marshmellows and 1 ping pong ball in it?

got myself another skunk last night on pork spare rib bones. that makes 5 sets and 5 animals in 5 nights(not in a row).

Easy as pie... eh LOL I notice your catches include no k-9s . Start trapping something with a good nose and some capacity for doing something other than scavenging and I think your going to find your catch rates plummett right quick like.

M 70 its a good time and if hunt waterfowl or upland your doing the right thing removeing any predator or scavenger. BUT dont think its "Just that Easy" .
Being in Sacramento you should be able to find a few yotes nearby ..Give them a whirl. You soon find scent, your human scent is a main concern..
The Ole bucket set for coons is a easy way to get started but dont let that simplicity fool ya into thinking its easy..

trust me, i know how hard it CAN be. i've yet to try for yotes or bobcats so don't get me wrong. it was just the excited enthusiasm of a rookie trapper.

I don't know why you would. Guess you could if you wanted to. I dont have to kick you or be insulting on this , those k9s humble every trapper just fine without my help. You'll see how it is as you expand your target species. Just making observation of that not trying to offend you in any sort of way.

grey fox are easy t ocatch in my neck of the woods,there used to human scent on the back roads so there not shy
