Just a quick question....are parkerized finishes resistant to rust/corrosion, and if so, how well do they protect a firearm (as good as nickle? Stainless steel?)....
I've been looking for a stainless steel revolver to carry while fishing....potent (.357), and will resist rust from water, sweat while wearing waders, ect.
However, I just realized that my Sprinfield armory 1911 has a parkerized finish.
....am I good to go?

Thanks in advance.................

A parkerized finish is tough and durable but still requires proper care. I have seen parkerized finishes with rust in the finish. I like the looks of a parkerized rifle or handgun. I still clean them and wipe them down after every use or handling. All the best...

it is better than blueing by far, but still needs more tlc than stainless. These days I usually prefere a matt stainless to anything else.

Mr. 16 gauge

I have used Duracoat finish on rifle and pistol and find the finish to be extremely resistant to rust. Far superior to bluing and/or parkerizing.IMHO

Parkerized is good, better than bluing but like everyone has said, still needs wiping down. If you are looking for a new gun, go with stainless.

jp nailed it by the way if you are refinishing an old firearm duracoat does work really well.
