I cast bullets for all my military surplus rifles. Cast bullets are great for target shooting and varmit/deer hunting. Many folks talk of the shortage of jacketed bullets for reloading. I suggest they give cast bullets a try.

Today, I shot the Lyman #311467 multi-groove 177 grain gas check bullet ahead of 18 grains of 2400 in my M1898 .30/40 Krag rifle. To my surprise, the cast loads shoot to point of aim with the battle sight at 100 yards. That is the same point of aim/point of impact with 150 grain jacketed bullets. I loaded up three boxes of that cast load and will go seek chucks tomorrow with the Krag.

I had a friend that used to cast 100 gr. HP`s for his 8mm Mauser and use them for groundhogs. They were good to about 150 yrds. and he killed alot of groundhogs with them.

Catfish,

One of my favorite 8mm cast bullets is the Lyman #323471, a 215 grain semi-spitzer. It is a fine target load and a good deer load.
