Have an old loaded round that I need to find out about. The headstamp is FYA on the top..HP on the bottom. dated 19on one side 28 on the other so I assume 1928. Bullet is crimped or actually staked..no on second look crimped and the bullet is cupro nickle jacketed FMJ. Loaded round weighs 369 gr exactly on my Dillon D terminator.. Case dimensions as cloase as I can measure a loaded round 2.9545 OAL Case length 2.1035 Rim Dia..0473 case diameter just above the rim .464 Length to base of shoulder 1.775 to the base of the neck 1.867 Diameter of the case just below the shoulder is .428 Oh and the bullet size is .3085 Nominal 30 cal. It looks like a 308 Winchester but 1928?? Any help would be appreciated..

The case dimensions are close to what a 308 would be, but not quite. The 308 measures .454 at the shoulder, for example, and the 308's length to the base of the shoulder is 1.560
What you might have is an old 30-06 case reformed into something else, and who knows what it might be then. . . someone's wildcat, who knows?
BTW, your dimensions don't match the 300 Savage, either.

There was also a Japanese rifle round (the designation escapes me at the moment) that a family member had a rifle for way back when. The only way they could get brass for it was from a speciality shop in Dallas (this was in the 70's). Sounds pretty close to it, but I dunno.

From what I can figure this round is a 7.65x53 Argentine Mauser round loaded by Hirtenbergeer under contract in 1928...probaqbly for Argentina or another South American country. Diameter of the bullet is a bit on the small side but it may be a little larger inside the case neck. Thanks for the help..where I found the info was an off the wall chance.

D'oh ! I never even considered 7.65, as it measures .311. . .
Sure sounds like the Argentine.
