I was in a local gun shop today getting a few odds and ends and saw a Savage 110 with a scope sitting in the used gun rack. A closer look revealed that is was a .270 Winchester in a hardwood stock (I tolerate synthetic stocks, but do not really like them) with a 3-9X scope and appeared to be in new condition. This shop has a policy that when a used firearm has been in the rack for 30 days or more, it is subject to a discount. The date the firearm arrived is noted on the hangtag and this one came in around mid-March.

After some discussion, we agreed on a lower price and I put the rifle on lay-away. I have a various rifles and some shoot better than others. Savage rifles will stay right with the guns that come out of the green boxes (yes, I have rifles that came in green boxes). Take care...

There ain't any flies on the old .270. :D:cool: I've had one around since about 1973 although I normally don't use on very much. Over the years I've taken two deer and one antelope with the cartridge. One thing I have settled on though is I prefer 150 gr. bullets in my handload to the 130 gr. bullets. I hunt mainly for the meat and the 150's don't mangle up as much good eating meat. My first deer with the .270 was maybe 40 yards away and that 130 gr. bullet blew up like a hand grenade inside the deer. made quite a mess. The second deer was maybe 60 yards with a 150 gr. bullet and the damage was much less.

Joe,

I have a Savage 110 in .270 caliber like your's. I got my biggest buck to date with it and a 140 grain handload.

I posted this years ago here about Savage (and Weaver rings).

What does Savage rifles, Weaver rings & bases and Jon Lyn have in common?

Kinda ugly, but give great service!

I am one of the weirdos who actually think the barrel lug nut looks 'cool' it makes it look like the 'Mechanics rifle'
