Definitely "steel" mounts! ......
Most recently I used double-dove tail Leupold's, but Conetrol are great too when I want a really clean, steel setup.
I'll be looking at the quick-detachable on my next purchase. |
Lynx, I'm real fond of the Conetrol set up. They really are nice and clean, and I've found them very rugged.
They also have a huge amount of available adjustment left and right for aligning your scope before you zero. Very handy if you ever run into a rifle that has the scope mount screws out of alignment (not uncommon). |
I like the Leopold Mount's , But I also use some of the weaver one's on my .22's;) And on my Shotguns is Weaver also.

Side Note:
Remember. "Weaver style" is not the same as "Weaver". Most Weaver mounts are aluminum, but the Weaver "Grand Slams" are all steel. |
Just voted for other, reason is I have a Ruger rifle and the Ruger ring set that comes with the rifle is superb. They are steel, strong and hold the scope just where you set it. And even if you take the scope off (i.e. for maintance, change to back-up scope, etc. ) and put it back on they maintain the same zero.

Burris Signature Dual Dovetail rings and bases. Every good characteristic in mounts with none of the disadvantages. Rock solid, easy to install, good looking, very forgiving and they protect your scope from ring marks. :)

Standard Leupold mounts for now and am moving up to the Badger scope rail with 20moa forward cant and rings for the 308.
The 22-250 and 222 don't need that kind of hardware so the Leupold metal will work fine. |
I have used the weavers on my model 70 and have been pleased. i just bought a ruger m77 in 7mm mag just 2 weeks ago so i'll be getting my first experiance with the ruger rings/mount system. from what i have seen and read i should be pleased. they had a close out on the rugers here in st. louis and i couldn't resist, 264.00 for the 300 win mag or 2.75 for the 7mm which i bought. i'll be scoping the ruger this coming weekend and i can hardly wait.

i cant belive ruger rings havent been mentioned. in my opion the best on the market.
second would be leo, i use dual dove tails on all my hunting rigs that arent rugers. i also like leupolds weaver base and PRW rings, pretty solid. |
I dislike mounts that have the dual opposed windage screws on the rear base, like the Redfield Jr., and the copies thereof. I've had these screws come loose on jeep trips, ruining the zero of my scope so that resighting was required. Now I always take my collimator along to hunting camps!
