Anybody Intend To...
Anybody intend to hunt whitetail deer with lever action rifles
this year? If so, why and what caliber do you intend to use? Thanks, Cherokee Cowboy |
I use a lever action some of the time. The one I'm using these days is a Winchester 94 Big Bore in 375 Winchester.
The 94 is really handy and easy to carry with that slim receiver. |
Yes I will spend time hunting with a marlin 336 in 30-30 winchester.

both my boys will use there 30/30 this fall when we go to the up the second week of deer seasen i will take a model 88 in 308
|
On my next deer hunting trip, I plan on taking my Marlin 336 in .35 Remington (where legal......about a third of our state is shotgun/muzzleloader only). I also hunt with a Winchester M94 in .30/30 Winchester.

Marlin 336 CS
.35 Rem
about 6-7 deer taken with it...none have ever taken a step good 'nuff for me |
I may take out my dad's old .30-30 m94 this season if the mood strikes me.
|
Marlin 45-70 guide gun, Win 94 30-30 (that belonged to my Great-Uncle) and Savage 99 308.
|
444 Marlin for Bear and the awful choice between 2 Pre-64's, one in 30-30 that dropped an 8 point last year and another Pre-64 in 32 Special. Man ain't life hard.
|
It depends
The choices are between a Savage 99 in .300 Savage, Marlin 336s in .30-30 and .35 and a Winchester Model 71 in .348. Decisions, decisions... Take care...

Cherokee Cowboy,
I have a M94 Carbine made in 1918 and a M94 Rifle made in 1919; both are .30/30s. I will hunt a day or two in the big woods with each this rifle deer season. Adam |
I intend to shoot a deer this season with my old 94 Lever gun..30WCF 26 in Oct rifle. Just bought a 94 Commemorative Lone Star..still unfired but the heck with it..it was made to shoot 26 in Half Round/half Octagon Short mag with Pistol grip and UGLY Brass plated receiver
|
Where I'm gonna be, 200-300 yd shots are gonna be the norm, guess my lever will stay in the safe again. Gonna have to stay with the bolts.

Marlin 336 in 30-30. works great as a brush gun or on deer drives.
