Sharpness test?

So you go ahead and sharpen all your old, dull knives that collect with your hunting gear. Ok, how do you know they are THAT sharp? I mean, I don't have a deer or bear to test them out on. Anyone know how I can tell if I got my knives sharp other than slicing my finger?:D

I've used this same test for years. I've shaved my forarm. Dry! It doesn't need to be shaved bare, just silver dollar sized. Thats my method! Forty years or so. I get a lot of requests to sharpen others knives. Bill.............

Slice a piece of paper or drag it across your thumbnail. If you use paper it'll slice smooth as can be if your knife is sharp. If it's dull, your paper will want to bunch up, you'll know. When you drag it across your nail, it'll drag if it's sharp. If it's dull, it'll feel smooth coming across it. That's how we always tested them in my ole packing house days.

Sharpness test

I wet a small spot on the back of my hand. I then try to shave the hair off. When it can do that it's sharp enough. If your not used to sharp knives be careful how you handle it.
