Big Alberta Bear

I'm a small Booking Agent born and raised in Canada, but living in Arizona now. Last year Tink Nathan (Tink's #69) and his lady friend Dot booked spring bear hunts through me. Tink arrowed 2, including this big one. Dot got her first...

Welcome to Huntchat! :D

That sure is a nice bear. :D Someday we'll get out to Alta bar huntin, sure would be nice. Congrats to your buddy, and his wife also. Glad to see another of us women folk huntin bear, some folks think I'm nuts to go out there with the big hairy beasts(the bears, not hubby;) ). :D

Thanks! We used our Omega muzzleloaders with 150 grains of Pyrodex pellets and 250 grain SST bullets. Take a look at this picture. This is a picture of bear skulls from his previous group of hunters. 3 of these skulls score over 20", 2 over 19", only 1 doesn't make the P&Y minimum of 18"

2004 fall hunt..

I got this guy in a berry patch. I was baiting for some of my parents guests, and came up with the truck over a hill, to spot this 425 pound bruin about 500 yards away... munching away in the berry patch... So I grabbed my 30-06, passed the video cam to my buddy, and took off running around the back side of a mound to get into position. I stalked that bear up to about 4 yards, and then it spooked.

The bear walked into a very thick poplar patch during the stalk, and that was why I was able to get so close. He ran and stopped at about 7 yards....

I must have scanned him for 20 seconds before taking a shot because it was that thick.... I could hardly make out the outline.

And then I picked out an ear, and realized he was looking right at me... so I squeezed one off...

My parents run bear hunts (fly in and drive in) in Northern Ontario.

Here's a link to some photo's taken by our guests.

Good luck hunting to all...

did you hit in near the right eye? nice bear btw.

Location of shot

The bear was looking at me, but not directly.... more of a one eyed glare back... I'm still thinking that it didn't understand what I, because the wind was in my favor and the poplars were so thick... The shot was right under the left eye, but never exited... Should have come out the neck...

Joel

Then, because my ATV was in the shop, I quartered it up, and walked it out of the bush.... 300 metres is a long way with a 100 pound quarter on your back... Actually did in 3 pieces..
