Picked up my SX2 today
 

I finally decided on a SX2 3.5" and picked it up. I tore it apart and cleaned it all up like the instruction said. Now I am waiting to try it out. This is my first autoloading shotgun.
I have a couple of quick questions.

#1 Is there different types of lubricant I should use on different areas of the gun. i.e. the bolt verses the gas system.

#2 Is there a proper "break in" procedure

Any advice is appreciated.

Do not use too much lube. That just attracts dust in autos and makes them jam even more. I use a little bit on the rails of the action and that is about it. Haven't had any jams with my 391's and only a couple with the SBE, but the jams on the SBE were partly or mostly due to cold weather and light loads.

As far as a proper breakin procedure, I would say a couple of rounds of sporting clays ought to get you used to the gun. Shooting an autoloader is just like shooting an o/u as far as break in is concerned.

Then again, you are shooting a Winchester, so it might have to be pampered a little bit. LOL If you don't know me already, I have to bad mouth Browning almost every chance I get and since the Winchester is the same gun as the Browning Gold 3.5", I have to give it a little too.

I picked up an SX-2 last fall too. I clean it just like the manual says, but I like to keep mine as dry as possible. Clean, but dry.

I'm careful about breaking in a new rifle, but I've never given it a second thought with a shotgun. Just shoot it, get used to it and clean it afterwards.

I picked the SX-2 since I liked it as well as the more expensive models I tried. I took some of the $500 I saved and took a correspondence course in gunsmithing so I could keep it working so I figure I still came out ahead from all I learned. A couple of my friends shoot them too and I get lots of practice fixing them and the training comes in handy.

Seriously though, it's a great gun. I'm not going to claim it's the very best autoloader out there, but it does everything I want it to and I like it.

Speaking of Browning. My favorite shotgun I've ever owned (so far) is my Browning BPS that I bought about 20 years ago. It has seen a lot of use and abuse and keeps coming back for more. My least favorite shotgun I've ever owned was also a Browning. A B-80 that I purchased with my last dollar when I was about 14. Biggest disappointment I've ever owned. I think think that one was made for Browning by Berretta and I don't know what ever happened to that model. I know mine went down the road and it took me over 20 years to get the courage to buy another autoloader.

You'll like your SX-2, let me know which light loads you choose to shoot. So far I haven't shot anything but 3" & 3.5" loads except for a couple 1 oz. target loads and I know they won't cycle.
