build me a 500yd ruger light rifle, 10lbs
 

guys build me light 6mm rem off ruger m77 action.

barreld action in the stock cant go over 9lbs. id like it to be a 500 yd rifle.

put together a list of stuff youd through at it. stock barrel, scope and such, id like to be under 10 when its finished but could probly live with 10.

do you think the 6mm is good 500yds rifle.cal?????


im thinking, pacnor 26" heavy contour fluted barrel in stainless, hs sporter stock, possibly vt stock.

im thinking a target weight 1.20" -.850" in 26"s maybe bigger at .930 at muzzle. this should crowd my weight standerds about perfect with flutes and be plenty stiff

though the 6mmrem is what im thinking about most the 6mm284 has a conciderable amount of my attention

or the 6mm250 (6mm international) that would be easy to build, actualy these are all easy.
i wonder how hard it would be to kneck 22/250 cases up 6mm, ive got a big stock pile of em.

nothing bigger than deer. and more than likly not at 500yds. om not thinking myself capable enough to plan on shooting deer at 500yds. at least not just yet

rock chucks, coyotes badgers, rabbits ground squriels and othe things that are comonly running around at long range.

boyd im now leaning towards the 243 improved, itl just be easier for me build and work with, at least i think so.

IMHO I would not IMP a 243 for work to 500 yards.The Std 243 would work very well

recomend a 6mm caliber is the 243 what youd recomend. i know its smallis compared to some long range 6mms


today i picked up 6-18vx with a standerd fine duplex. for the rifle. currently i cant the 22/250 to shoot a group smaller than 2"s but im pushn facotry ammo.

picked up some h380 to run through it with bullets seated at the max lenght even if they dont fit in the mag box.

if i cant get it to shoot the scope leaves to premier reticle, and the rifle is going to pacnor.

but i do need to know for sure what caliber i want it to be, i cant tell them well i cant decide on the 243 6mm250 or 6mmrem

Wrong powder....Try H4350 with some 105 Hornady A-Max's;)

Out to 500 yards the 243....Out to 1000 yards would be a 6-284

kinda been on the back burner with this latley. and may be doing things difrently.

shooting my 2506 latly has showed me i dont need 6mm its just want that dang 2506 is a shooter.

i got to thinkn about cases. i got to thinkn about the 22/250 pushn all that powder through smallish kneck, then it kinda clicked what if i just kneck the 22/250 case straight out or as straight out as is available.
wouldnt that inturn make the case more efficient pushing the same weight 6mm bullet. powder isnt funneld down near as much in the kneck

dont mind me, im just drinkn coffee and buzzn here. gotas get something going with this rifle soon. last time i shot it the tighter groups were 4"s

If it were me I would do a 6mmAI for the simple reason that in my mind it is the most bang for your buck. You get a longer, narrower case that is more efficient. Plus you could squeeze a bit more from it. Now going of what you stated for it uses use a 26"brl with a 1in10 twist and for hunting deer I would use either the Barnes or the Swift Scirooco bullets at 90grs. With these bullets you are prepared for everthing from 100 to 5 or 600yrds. They have a high BC for there wieght and will reach out and touch and em also they are a well constructed bullet that will stay together at closer rangers even at high velocity. I also have used the Barnes Varminator bullets withn great success out of my 22-250 they just are flat ass bad on praire dogs! Just a thought

Hmmm, and all this time I thought that the short, fat cases were the most efficient and accurate.....;)

Glad to see that thier is still humor in the field. I learned about the 6mm advantage as a young man from my father who isn't a big .243 fan. Short and fat doesn't always equal efficient now does it.

gotta go with you on this one. 6mm is an excellant choice. i've used this caliber for over 30 years in several configurations. great choice

Got to be honest I'm personally a 6.5mm fan than a 6mm fan but like I stated in the 6mm world the 6mm Remington would be my choice!
