storing your ammmo

gun safes aside, does anyone know any ways to store a bunch of boxes of ammo? got around 20-30 boxes of different types of ammunition in my bottom night stand drawer but need a new spot for it.

Harbor Freight has a little steel safe, with digital keypad, which is often on sale for about $40.

I bought a lockable toolbox a couple years ago and it's worked well for me. What are you trying to protect your ammo from? My toolbox keeps my ammo out of my kids' hands and that's exactly what I got it for.

Surplus ammo cans make for good storage. Built one out of 1x12 pine a few years back. Made it through a divorce and house fire...still going strong. :)

Surplus metal ammo cans work well as well.

no reason in particular. just wanted a safe storage method for the ammo so it's out of the way. maybe walmart has some plastic stirage bins or something, cheap.

Our local surplus stores sell ammo cans for about four bucks each. There's always a couple stacks of them maybe five feet tall - all different sizes and kinds.

Of course, this is Utah. I can't even guess what California might have.

slim pickin's, that's what we got.

Well, I can endorse the MTM Dry-Loc boxes if you can't get surplus ammo cans. Not as cheap, but darn good - like all MTM products.

metal or plastic? where can you find them? i was thinking about going to walmart and getting some low-profile rubbermade storage boxes. think them would work?

I use an old 5 drawer Steelcase File Cabinet. It locks and is very sturdy. The deep, wide drawers let me store a LOT of ammo, and it allows easy sorting too.

For bulk ammo, I just stack the cases up in a back closet. I made low shelf out of treated 4 X 4, and boy you can get a lot of 7.62 X 39. 5.56 X 45 and 7.62 X 51 in a closet :)

found what i wanted. it's an under the bed size plastic storage container that works quite nicely. may have to get another but at $3.98 each i can afford to.
