30-06

hey guys was thinking about getting one of these during the summer of next year when I get my job lol. But I love these guns. I have shot a couple of them and I think that these are the best rounds ever made. Far distance with a lot of knock down power and almost no recoil what so ever. I wanted to get a winchester 30-06 with a decent scope on it and umm the action I would have it a bolt action (I dont think they come in anything else or any other action I have seen.)

This is one of the finest rifle calibers in the world. You have made an excellent choice. You may have forgotten the action of the M1 Garand(semi automatic), the 7400 Remington, Browning BAR and several other makes in this action type--fully automatic weapons from WWII(just a thought)...but bolt action is definitely the best choice IMO. The Winchester model 70 is a good choice for a bolt rifle, but the Remington model 700 is more accurate if you ever had the fancy to do something involving precision. Model 70s are great rifles so you don't need to hesitate when this is a choice of yours. As for a scope, I highly recommend Leupold's Rifleman scope, or their VXI.

ive got just the rifle.

a ruger 3006.

i like rugers over remingtons and winchesters after trying both n various rifles and calibers.

Can't go wrong with an ought six, got 3 of em myself. There's a pretty good reason why officially it'll be 100 years old next year; if it wasn't any good it wouldn't be consistently in the top 10 in reloading dies sold or recognized around the world. You can be in timbucktoo and find ammo. Put a good 180 grainer in the boiler room of most any medium sized large game animal and you got steak and eggs for breakfast.

In addition to bolt action, pump action, semi-autos, and single shot break opens, I've also seen the '06 in lever action. If I'm not mistaken it was a Winchester Model 98.

Yes IdahoHunter, you can do much, much, worse than a Springfield '06 in bolt action, Waidmannsheil, Dom.

Very good all around rifle and caliber. I have taken many deer and antalope with it including my very first deer. Mine was bolt action Weatherby Vanguard. Good choice

I HAVE A BROWNING 30-06 A-BOLT YOU CANT BET THE 30-06 IT'S JUST ALL AROUND GUN.

I've got several of them, true, there are newer cals but I started with a 06 when I was 13-14. Funny, I've owned darn near all of em ang still go back to the original! My own preference
is pre 64 M70's.

I agree with what everyone else has said. The old 06 is probibly the best alround round for North American hunting. To big for a good fur gun and alittle lite on browm bear, but will do an excellant job on everything inbetween, and in a pinch, with the right loads, you can use it for fur and brown bear.

When I called the PH in South Africa and asked about which rifle to bring for plains game, the first thing out of his mouth, 30-06.

It is a cartridge with world wide popularity and respect.

This is my 1941 pre war Mdl 70 in 06.

No argument from me. Until you get to Buffalo (either kind) or Elephants, it will do a credible job on them all with the right bullet.

I kind of laugh when I think of all the rifles, scopes and loads I have tinkered with and yet I have a Springfield made in 1918, a Winchester 70 made in 1936 and a Garand made in 1941 which all shoot a lot better than I can hold.

"We've come a long way baby."...not :-)

Well, OK we do have some good bullets but they work in the '06 also.

Oh, have you all lost your minds and forgotten about the excellent Browning BLR??! :)

scalerman 03-08-2007 11:33 PM

My thoughts exactly. Or what about my favorite Ruger #1. 26" barrel, no longer than a bolt action with a 22" barrel.
