Checkering

Had checkering added to a Boyd laminate. What should be used to seal the new checkering? The laminate is "Nutmeg" and the new checkering is much lighter. Do I need to stain and seal or is there a product that will do both?

The laminate layers, if stained, should be stained through and through. So the only finish needed would be the same as that used to finish the stock to start with, if True Oil, poly, Pro Oil, etc. Just use a toothbrush and a small amount of finish to seal and not fill the checkering. Repeat, do not fill the checkering with finish. Be careful not to break the points off by rubbing to hard. Wipe off the excess "spray" around the checkering when done. After the finish cures on the checkering, the checkering should be harder to damage.
