I finally loaded some 9mm Luger ammo.

I have a few P-38s and bought a set of 9mm Luger RCBS dies a few years ago along with some 115 JHP Sierra bullets. Yesterday I finally loaded a few test batches and tested them in a P-38 that did not reliably eject fired cases with 147 grain factory JHP ammo.

I found an accuracy load and all cases ejected with the higher pressure reloads in my "problem" P-38. My groups were great, but I will need to rezero the front sight from 147 grain ammo zero to get POA/POI. After I expend the last of my factory 147 grain stash, I will rezero for the 115 Sierra JHP reload.

I used Unique powder and found the 9mm case no more difficult to load than the small .38 S&W cases for my British 38/200 S&W revolver. One question: does anyone use a taper crimp for the 9mm? I did not and did not have any problems.

Happy Birthday, Gil

Glad to hear it went well

Loading 9mms is not difficult and a taper crimp seems to help feeding reliability. I used to apply a slight roll crimp, but the taper is better. All the best...

P.S. Happy Birthday, Adam!

Gil,

You will always be older than me!

I posted the 9mm reloading thread here because some guns have heavier recoil springs than others and handloading may correct problems in cycling. It seems my 147 factory ammo is sub-sonic and does not have the pressure of heavier handloads. My Luger also likes fairly hot 115 grain JHP handloads.
