berger MEF varmit bullet question
 

picked up a box of these a few days ago, i hadnt seen them being advertised as being prefragmented, but on close inspection the jacket seems to be prestrestressed. you can see lines and feel them going the lenght of the the jacket. theyre even pronounced enough that you can feel them with your finger nail.

if they are prefragmented that would go right along with theyre name, maximum exspansion factor. i picked up some weigh 55grs and theyre a flat based bullet.


also what ive you guys found when loading these bullets.

I shot a bunch of their MEF bullets in my .17 Rem. and never got an exit on groundhogs. I did hit acouple in the rear end, you know, the ones when you hit them with your .22-250 the frount 1/2 is just gone! Well I didn`t get enoyhg penatration to kill them. They were paralized in the back end, but very mad in the frount end. Great PD bullets though.

I use the 52 MEF's in a 222 Magnum, and they work extremely well on woodchucks. And they shoot more accurately that any other bullet in that rifle.
Very destructive bullet. Maybe because the 52 grain MEF in .224 is a bit bigger than the .17's that Catfish is using, I haven't had a single woodchuck survive the first hit- even for a second.
I get no exit wound on body hits, although I do get an exit wound on head shots.

Your 1/2 right. The bullets are not only twice as large but they are not going as fast. They are good bullets.

True, Catfish- my bullets are traveling about 3300 fps, if I recall right.

are the 52grmers flatbase or boat tail. my 55s are flat.

ive got some loaded also have some sierra's loaded, just no time or good weather to try them right now.
