Any body post here if you trap in Louisiana.

South East Texas
 

What about if I grew up in South East Texas - in Orange. Can I post here too? My Granddad introduced me to trapping 20 years ago down on Blacks Bayou in the marsh and at his duck camp. Does that count? If so then great ... I have a lot of experiences to share if you need help with something.

sure you can post here. I am 13 years old and going to start trapping. do you know when coyote, mink,or muskrat season closes in Louisiana.

one more thing, do you prefer victor,duke or other traps.
what do you trap for. me and my dad are going to buy traps this weekend.

Traps & Targets
 

I prefer Duke and Bridger to the others simply because of cost.

I run a Trap Retail and ADC business. So the ADC work will dictate what the target is.

were gonna go into town and get some traps at a co-op store. they have connibears there and thats what my dad wants, but im not sure if they have steel leg traps. i want some a 1.5 coil spring.

Sounds good, but be careful at the Co-op Store. Unless you are ordering from a trap dealer, or going to R&P in Mansfield ... a Co-op usually charges too much for traps.

sice your a dealer, what would be a good price for 110 body trap, 1.5 coilspring, and a beaver/muskrat body trap. what is a good beaver/ muskrat size body trap

For Raccoon, body traps from #160 to #220

I recommend body traps from #280 to #330 for otter, beaver and larger.

Squirrel Hunter 9292, Am very happy to see a young man start trapping. I see you are from SW La., I am from the very cold state of Wi. Yesterday it was 17 below, only 4 below this morning, warming trend. But I am very familiar with SW La., have spent winters there for the last 17 years, since I retired. Sitting out this one tho. Hang around Kaplan alot, have friends in Pecan Island, Cameron, Gueydan, Ester etc. Now I know a lot of habit was destroyed with Rita, wonder what you trapping. A lot of my friends lost thier homes in Rita. Always saw a lot of otter down there and of course nutria, muskrats and even beaver. Well good luck in your trapping. Best advise I can give you is find some old trapper to show you the basics, plus skinning and streching. A good skinning job and proper streching of the fur pays dividends.

was a typo. i do know many people affected by rita and katrina.
today it was about 30 degrees out today, which is very cold to us in La. me and my dad are going to start trapping mink, beaver,coon, and possibly nutra because we live close to a lake. i have 80 acres of trappable land.we are going to possibly buy some 330 body traps, 110 body traps, and 1.5 coilsprings. any tips on tanning or trapping.

do any of you know if coon fur is still good in the summer, because
in La you can trap coon and possum all year long. how valuable
is mink, beaver, and coon.

Summer time pelts
 

Squirrel ... summer time pelts are not as good nor as saught after as winter pelts. They thin out in the summer time, and shed out their winter coats.

Squirrel Hunter, I wouldn't trap any fur when it's not prime and they sure aren't prime in the summer. No use taking an animal if it can not be utilized. Now, the nutria bounty system is a different thing as are animal damge complaints. You can be a big help to farmers who are having damage done by animals at any time of the year and it makes for good public relations.
