Midway barrels
 

Folks,
I have acquired several Adams & Bennett barrels in various calibers from Midway and have been very pleased with their performance. To date, I have rebarreled a Kar98k sporter with a bad bore into a 7x57mm Mauser, a 1903 Springfield sporter became a .280 Remington, an FN Mauser is now also a .280, a Krag is getting a .30-06 barrel rethreaded and rechambered into .30/40 and a Springfield 1903-A3 sporter will become a .338-06.

These are budget-priced barrels that are medium contour and threaded for a'98 Mauser. The local gunsmith really likes the barrels and they shoot as good as I can hold. I was shooting the .280 Springfield yesterday with reloads of 139 grain Hornady bullets and IMR4350 powder and shot honest MOA groups. When these barrels go on sale again I plan to get a few more. used quite a few of those barrels in the shop where i worked at one time. some shot outstanding, some shot average, but there were no loosers.

they are great barrels for the regular guy who can't afford a krieger, broughton, lillja, obermayer etc.

they will certainly work for a non-custom rifle. never had a customer come back threatening to stick it in our ear or somewhere else for that matter.

A few folks insist that Adams & Bennett barrels are made by E.R. Shaw. My gunsmith really like them and so do I. All the best...

heard that rumor also. can't attest to it one way or the other. guess the only way to find out is get a job at midway and see where the barrels are shipped in from. also heard hart might be involved. who knows, as long as they work and the customer is satisfied. :cool:

I am going to rebarrel my 308 Savage FP-10 to 220 Swift with an A-B barrel. Do I have to change the follower?

I am sure Hart is NOT involved in this -not quite their market.
Years ago the best deal was Douglas pre chambered barrels-they were easy to thread and headspace and shot etremely well.
A fact not many know is that they have produced Bench Rest quality barrels for some very good shooters. I also shot some early Ruger #1 and varmint 77's with Douglas barrels that impressed me especially in .220 Swift.
I remember one barrel that was a button rifled house brand reject bought for $14 I think. It was a 22/250 and when my friend was installing this he called me over.When you ran a brush or tight patch through you could feel all the tight and loose spots and see why it was a reject. On a good M98 action with a Weaver K10 this rifle using the first load of 4064 and Speer 52 HP put 10 rds in under 3/4 " at 100 yds all day long. After seeing the targets a friend offered him twice the money that the rifle cost in parts with out bargining which BoB rather enjoyed a lot so he sold it but would have rather taken less money after some dealing.
The best way to see what any barrel will do is shoot it- you never know until then.
