Trying to decide on a new skinny gun

Ok, I've been contemplating this for awhile but keep putting it on the backburner due to work.
Am looking to purchase a Remmy VSSF-II in 22-250 or a VLS in 243Win.
Anyone shooting one of those models?

Currently I have a VLS 308, VS 22-250 and a SA XD 45GAP that I'm looking to sell.
Also have a VSF in 308Win which is my Homeland Security rifle.

The 22-250 is still shooting good but I'd like to upgrade to the VSSF-II in stainless with the new stock.
Had thought about rebarreling the VLS to a fast twist 243 but $1200.00 to do that is out of the question right now.

In my locale, the 22-250 is an excellent all-around cartridge.
But, I don't need 2 - 308 Winchesters and would like to shoot long with the 243 and heavy bullets.
So it's a tough choice right now as to which caliber to buy first. If the VSSF-II came in 243 I'd do that first in a heartbeat.
Decisions, decisions...
And these are the only guns I'm seriously considering as of now. :)
Maybe I should just buy both...

I did check out the Savage Model 12 Varminter Low-Profile. That is one sweeeet rifle but it doesn't have a drop-down floorplate. I don't like the idea of cycling rounds thru the chamber to unload the gun for transport.

Oh, how about I throw all those ideas away and buy a new Kimber Warrior Gov't Model. Now that's a man's gun... :D

Skinny,
My gunsmith is currently making several 7STWs necked down to 25 cal. They are shooters. Should be a great skinny shooter....

Skinny,

Ol Spark has the 300 Tomahawk for sale. That'll mist 'em for ya. Got some pretty long kills recorded with that gun.

Andy,

Isn't that called the 25 Hot Tamollie? I hear of 4000+ fps and very short barrel lives with that one. Supposedly she shoots like a laser to 500?

Ive heard it called several names, Petey. But, hes claiming 4100+ with a 100gr bullet. I dont know myself, but he normally dont lie.

I would guess it would be a bbl burner, but he also claims it is a lazer to 500, just like you said. It would be fun for a while!!

I believe Craig Bodington did a write up on that caliber? Either an STW or RUM cartiridge necked down to a 25. You'll get 4000 fps and shoots out to 500 with very little drop. Obviously for such performance you'll be giving up something...barrel life. Should be fun to shoot and a good gun for you varminters out in the midwest. The only problem is if you can only run 1000 rounds through it. I'd be screwed after a few weeks, b/c I'd be pumping a lot of rounds through that one.

It would be nice not to worry about ranging and dialing a scope in, though. Just put the crosshairs on it and pull the trigger. Throw in another $500-$600 and have him make you up another barrel, ready to put on for next year ;)

Oh what fun it is to contemplate. Have fun with your deciding--tr

Layne Simpson came up with both the 7 STW and the 25 STW.

Both are really fast, really HUNGRY for powder, and really SHORT on barrel life.

SS, I keep telling you, you NEEEEED a Hornet. But you won't listen.

Skinny, savage is supposed to be coming out with a low profile in 22-250 with a 9 twist. 75 gr. Amax`s would be a thought. Also a 7 twist 223 is in the works. I still say to mist a skinny proper, a 30-378 and 168 gr. red prarie bullets is the way.............
