Do anyone shoot a S&W M645 .45ACP?

I recently saw a new-in-the-box S&W M645 for sale. I had not seen a 645 previously. Massad Ayoob has an article on Smith .45s on page 60 of the November 2007 issue of "Guns" Magazine.

Ayoob says that in 1983 S&W came out with a stainless double action first-shot service pistol, the Model 645. He further says it looks like a Model 39 9mm with a gland condition. The 645 is a bit larger than a M1911 Colt. I think I will take another look at that 645, unless I get some negative comments on that model pistol.

I do

Bought it from a State cop friend. He used it as his backup until the force upgraded weapons.

Nary a problem with it although I'm in the market now for an easier to carry one. Pachmyers limit its "hiding" :D

FIJI,

Thanks for the information. I like the looks and feel of the 645. It has an 8-round mag, as you know, and is DA for the first shot unless one thumbs back the hammer.

Have had one for several years. Never had a problem with function/reliability. I had originally intended to carry it as a duty weapon, but for reasons I don't fully understand, I never liked it as well as my SIG P-220.

I always made it a point to qualify with it quarterly so it would be available and approved for carry if my SIG was ever out of service, but that never happened. I always shot a slightly higher score with the SIG, but I attribute that more to greater familiarity with the SIG than anything else.

you might have something there

whenever I go shoot with a friend (who carries both a Sig 40 & 9mm - "her Girls")....I shoot better with her Sig than my own 645

:(

thus I'm leaning toward the Sig as my next addition
