Deer Attractants
 

So whats your favorite attractant?
One of the guys I work with has been wondering about "Comeheredeer". Don't know if I spelled it correctly.
He asked if I'd ask what you guys thought about it.

Not allowed to "bait" here in PA, which I'm sure comeheredeer would fall under. Really I haven't used scents in a few years. I've found that doing your homework, good woodsmanship and stand placement beats any type of "Scent" out on the market.

Don't get me wrong, I've killed numerous bucks using doe-in-heat, but stand location probably had more to do with it than the scent. You can use all the attractants in the world, but if you have poor stand pacement, then what good does it do?

I guess I've gone a bit conservative in that aspect. I don't buy into all the gimicks now-a-days. Like Scent-lok, there's another debate (and gimmick) if you actaully knew the true about heat activated carbon and the temps you need to get it to, to actually do what they claim. Believe me, it's 1000's of degrees higher than your ordinary dryer of 300 or so degrees. Anyhow, not to hi-jack the thread, just to say I don't get hooked on the latest gimmick just b/c someone endorses it on TV. I can't stand that ComehereDeer show....

I think he plans to use it in a park over run by deer.
Lots of stands so not many choices for stand position.

Overran by deer and allowed to bait? Gotta go with corn on that one. Course I've never baited, other than for bear, but I doubt a deer would go for spaghetti, frozen pie or dead beaver! ;)

Of course when I hunt for a new stand placement I'm looking mostly for white oaks with lots of acorns. They prefer those over the reds around my area. There's another product called Acorn Rage posted all over TV also. That may be another good one to try? It's a deer's natural food source around here. Not sure in Iowa though?

I hunted several years in Maryland and you were allowed to bait on private land. Hunted over a corn pile for a couple days and didn't see anything. Went back to public land and used common knowledge and the lay of the land to shoot a nice buck. I guess it just wasn't natural to me to be hunting over something like that since I never have for deer. Hopefully some of the MD folks will chime in on this one and give you a better perception. I've never used either so all I have is a biased opinion on what I would consider "bait". It may work but it looks like a gimmick to me!

Indiana is no bait state also. I have seen something like comeheredeer used called DEERCAIN. It did work for the guy who used it.

One thing that gets my goat is that with baiting illegal all the sporting good stores in Indiana sell it. I guess one could argue that it was for use out of state.

Good old corn, salt and corn syrup mixed and bucketed into a field is most likely about as good as any comercial product.
