.22 What!!!???
In a previous post someone said something about a .22 Eargesplittenloudenboomer, a .50 BMG necked down to .22 cal, created by P.O. Ackley to hunt nauga with ( what is that). I have heard conflicting stories as to whether it was a BMG or .700 Nitro necked down and as to whether it was really Ackley who created it and also whether it went 6000 FPS or 45,000 FPS when using 45 grain bullets. Please clarify this. I would enjoy any info possible. Thanks

Actually, it was Bob Hutton that developed the 22 Eargesplittenloudenboomer. The parent case was the 50 BMG.
I don't know whether he ever chambered a barrel or worked up loads for it. What's a nauga? A nauga is the critter that naugahyde comes from;) As in: horse hide comes from horses, cowhide from cows- naugahide comes from naugas. Simple, eh? |
The round you are refering to is more fiction than fact. While I`m sure that there have been .50 cal. round necked down to .22 cal. and had barrels chambered in it, the fact remaind that it is totally impractial. I did see a barrel that was chambered in the 50 bmg necked down to 6mm, ( .243). The guy that had it said he was only able to get around 6,000 fps. from is. With the amount of powder required the round was simply way over bore to the point of being silly. If I rember correctly, that around 7,000 fps. is the fastest you can push a bullet with gun powder due to the physics involved, and that is in theory.

Hey Jack!
Naugahyde is actually a combination of poly-somethingerother, nylon, and leather, I think.

Now, now now......don't you be spreadin rumors like that. It took me years to convince my girlfriend that Nauga hunters are as rare and special as the Nauga's they hunt! :P |

Nauga hunters are indeed, a special breed.:D

Sorry Jack but I still stand by my story that naugahyde is synthetic. I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree.

True, Tater- barrel life would be very, very short.
But, it'll sure kill those naugas! :D |
Someone said barrel life was ten rounds.

Yeah a necked down 50 cal to .22 would probably work well on Jackalopes too.;) especially those 1,000 yard shots. Over- kill on Naugas
