Snow THUNDER Storm!

Well, they predicted a major storm to hit here about drive time.

4:37 pm - KABOOM! KABOOM-boom! Lightning, thunder and an INSTANT two inches of hard snow pellets. Still pounding down hard, and thought I'd post while I still have volts!

Its wierd to see thunder & lighting with snow... I have seen it once...

I got caught in a snow thunderstorm once here in Minnesota, New Year's Day a couple years back. Scared the daylights out of me.

As I was running home I thought of all the times in my youth when I was dumb and deserved to get hit by lightning and now that I'm older & wiser I could end up getting struck during a snow shower on New Year's Day.

I hope you kept your power on Rocky.

Power stayed on just fine, and the thunder quit after the first wall of VERY black clouds got by. My wife said if this were Kansas, we'd be combing through tornado wreckage by now - it was THAT nasty-looking!

Dang if my neighbor didn't go out about 9 pm and blow his own and two other driveways clear! I was dumbfounded when I peeked outside at 10 and saw mine was bare. Looks like I'll be blowing his while he's at work today. . . still snowing a bit and there's another few inches down.

Project this to hit here this afternoon.

Yeah thunder and lightning during a snowstorm can be weird the first time you see it.

I've seen it twice

First time was in Bindlach Germany Dec 6th 1990 the day we left for Saudi ( ball lighting included, only time I've ever seen that)

and dec 9th 2007 during the icestorm in okla.

Some areas I am told it's more common, anyone here in one of those areas?

Winter thunderstorms aren't common in the Northeast, but I've seen them.
Quite recently, as a matter of fact- I think the same storm that you out west saw, produced thunderstorms when it reached us.

These storms are common in our area and we did get 4" of snow last night.
