Short-lived powders
Has anyone noticed that the Vitavouri 100 series powders don't last as long as some other brands. I just dumped some N110 and N160 that smelled acrid and the 110 produced squib loads in a 460 S & W--luckily the bullets made it out of the barrel. This powder is probably 10 years old but I have lots of other brand powders that are older and they seem fine.

That's the very first I've heard of that. But single-base powders ARE more susceptible to it than double-base or Ball.
I'd give the distributer (still Kaltron-Pettibone?) a call and let them know about it, pronto. Have the lot numbers handy. I don't have a link to them, so you'll have to Google it. |
I'm not a powder sniffer:eek: , but I have noticedn in general V-V powders don't have the smell we all have learned to love like the IMR powders. And you are right , some of the 100 Series smell almost putrid.
Of course I'm a bit older and the olfactory senses aren't as sharp as they used to be. Shucks, a lot of things aren't like they usta was. Best wishes, Bill |
