shot group
 

After much trial I finally have a group of seven shots that turned out pretty good.
If everything works as it should the picture should be here. For reference, the red squares are 3/4 of an inch (they look bigger because of the scanner).
These shots were taken from 100 yards. The group includes seven shot, with one that lost its way, making a total of 8 shots. All shot were with the use of a Lead Sled, so it is not reflecive of my shooting ability; but does make me feel good about the rounds I reloaded.

Really, this group is the result of some good advice, luck and a shooting rest that essentially took me out of it. I am far more happy than proud.

The sad part is that I'm not sure the information I made note of on the target is correct, so the amount of powder may be 39.5, or 42, or something else.

The explanation of the mistake is complicated, and one I won't make again.

The only part I am sure of is that the group with new brass was better than the same load in previously shot brass - I thought it would be the other way around.

Ref getting confused on the load data, the way I fix that is I write on the side of each case w/a felt pen how many grains of powder. For instance, just 72, or 72.5, or whatever is in the case.

My load slip has all the other info, but when you're testing different amounts of powder if you get interrupted or whatever . . . it can happen. Waidmannsheil, Dom.

When I test loads I use a different approach. I use numbers for the loads while at the range, compile the results and then look up which loads go to which letters. That way I can't bias the data even sub-consciously. That 3/4" group of 7 rounds looks very nice. Now, if the load info is discovered and it repeats it's accuracy then you have an excellent hunting load.
