Benchrest debate

My brother said that a 10-22 super-accurized 22lr would not be a very good first timers benchrest rifle. I disagree. Should I invest in a $1000+ fun Rifle? I just wanna ping 2'' gongs @ 200YDs. Does anyone agree with me on this subject. would a 10-22 do this in a cheap, low cost, high quality, rifle?

Between wind drift and a rainbow trajectory, the .22 LR is not suitable for anything like 200 yds.

At 200 yards you can have a short conversation between the time you pull the trigger and when the bullet arrives.
