Case Trimmer

I need to get a new case trimmer. The one I on loan from my cousin is going back after having it on loan for 25 years. I guess its time for a new one.

I like RCBS but know little obout their case trimmers

Anybody own and use one or is there other options out there. I'm just looking for the average trimmer, nothing fancy.

RCBS is fine. Others are maybe better..maybe faster..maybe whatever... but the RCBS does work well. Try finding one on E(vil) bay. Probably find one cheaper there. I saw a new in the box Lyman the other day in a store discounted to 35 bucks..but I already have 2 power trimmers..An RCBS and a Gracey. So didn't buy it.They also had a Lyman 55 powder measure NIB for the same price. I did buy it.

I have one of the fancy rcbs elec lathe type trimmers and it's nice. BUT i hardly use it anymore. I hardly use my vibratory cleaner any more either.
I replaced them with a cheap lee universal case holder and stud that they use on the pull cord lee trimmer. I put the stud into an elec drill on my bench.
I can clean, trim, debur...almost anything so fast now that its not worth it to screw around with any other type of equipment.
I use the caliber specific lee trim gauge and they are really reasonably priced. No setting up and micing cases anymore.
It's hard to believe but I used to hate trimming....now I get a kick out of it.....but I'm goofy and anytime I can use an elec motor to make things happen quick I get some sort of superiority complex.

Here...take a look at this U tube thread ....only just imagine an elec drill instead of the pull cord trimmer.....

I have my drill set up in the yoke of my cleaning cradle....put in the shells and remove with the right hand....pull the trigger with the left hand.

I prefer a case trimmer that holds the head of the case in a collet. That way you are trimming for total length. I have been using a Forster for years, but have been taking longing looks at the Redding Model 2400. It holds the case in a collet but rotates the case against a stationary cutter. The case has to be true all around. Redding hasn't come out with an adapter to convert it to a neck turning machine as yet.

Well heck

My next large purchase is gonna be a Giraud case trimmer. Very expensive..but I have an awful lot of 223 cases to do and the Gracey just doesn't do as well as I like. It's gonna go on Evil bay ..maybe tomorrow.
