Questions about a bi-pod
 

My boy wants a bi-pod for his cricket. Kind of a daddy has one, so I want one too sort of thing. I was looking at one similar to this...

Are these clamp on types decent? Will they harm or stress the barrel in any way? Any help you can offer will be much appreciated. Thanks, Chris...

I was always afraid to try them, instead I purchased a sling stud mount type from wal-mart for around $40.

I personally wouldn't buy one. I wouldn't worry so much about barrel stress, vs marking it all up. Besides, that's a lot of gear for a cricket. I use shooting sticks for my little boy, but I can see where an attached bi-pod would be beneficial.

I got one on my remmy 700 .308 and i m glad i put it on there....it attaches right to the sling swivel stud....and then the sling attaches to the pod itself....weight is not much at all...But it sure improves accuracy in the prone position...out to 500 yard's very nice ! doesnt mark up the firearm being attached to the forearm.... paid $40.00 for it at a local gun-shop.....Petey id say go for it you''ll love it !

The one I'm looking at clamps around the barrel.

Never had a clamp int the barrel type. I'd shy away if it was me. Inherent accuracy os best found without something clamped to the barrel.

Stated b4 I would make a set of shooting sticks and teach the youngin in the use.

I'll check into the sticks. It doesn't have a sling stud either for that type, but he wants a sling too. We'll see what happens later this spring. Thanks guys.

A sling stud is very easy to install.....especially on a cricket....

If you have not already purchased something, I would put the money down for a Harris bipod, it will last a long time, so when he is older and truly needs a real bipod like dads' he will already have it, plus when he gets older the Harris will cost a lot more.

I`m with Petey. After all the boy is just learning to shoot and a tree or a post or shooting sticks I think are better to learn with than a by-pod. That and I would never put 1 on the barrel eather.

Nothing on the barrel... defeat's the accuracy !
