Sweets & trapping?
 

I've heard & read that sweets, such as honey, are a great bait for trapping coon. I have a fair amount of maple syrup which is questionable for human consumption, but was thinking of putting it in a squirt bottle and using it for trapping.
Think it would work?

I was gonna say that sweets are good for trappin gals too, but it might work for coons.

If you want to trap me use sweets. That my downfall.

If you look at most marketed coon lures, they have some sort of sweet smelling base such as anise. Fish oil extracts work as well, but my favorite attractant always has a sweet smell to it.

I prefer using fish for coon over sweets. But, if you're trapping an area where non-target animals might be a problem, you'd better use sweets. Marshmallows work well too. Coon aren't the only animal attracted to sweets, though. I've taken skunks and possum on marshmallows and grape jelly in addition to coon.

I've never used grape jelly..bet it'd work great.. I like it anyway.. But I do use sardines and cheap tuna fish. They seem to like tuna better'n sardines. Foxes seem to like tuna also. Wild cats like chicken salad..that's what my wife uses in the live trap...then it's to the vet for de noogieing.. 'Course she rides a broom... till it runs outta gas

I use jack mackeral for my fish bait. It smells very fishy. If you get it on your hands, it's hard to wash off the smell; it's that potent and the coon die for it, literally.

Hmmm, the maple syrup is questionable for human consumption? Like, it's crystallized?
Just boil it, amd the syrup will be fine for humans- lots cheaper stuff you can tempt critters with.
