pinhole leak in neoprene waders
 

Anyone here have a relatively easy way to find a pinhole leak in neoprene waders? I have tried the 'usual' method of putting them on and then wading in them, then trying to turn them inside out to find the leak......I still can't find it. It must be small, cause the waders aren't filling up, but I'm getting a pretty good spot over time.
.....and, before someone suggests it, it's NOT just persperation.....it is a definite leak. I have two pair that are leaking, and I really don't want to have to go out and buy another pair this fall.

Fill them with water.

Running long traplines years ago I gave up on trying to find the exact spot of a leak, use shoegoo on the inside in a large swath and hope it got it. On bad ones leaks got a patch and shoegoo.

You really find 'em when it's real cold. As far as finding the leak..what Jack said..if necessary put Blue food coloring in too..Or red or yellow..if you're so inclined LOL

Jack hit the nail on the head, food coloring is one thing I never thought of. Good idea.

just find a pool or lake and fill them with air and submerge them. If water can get in....air will leak out.

Actually FIJI..what you said is not always true with neoprene waders. If the hole is at the right angle and in the right place Air may not come out and create bubbles. Unless you pressurize 'em a bit higher than normal atmospheric.. which you really can't do But water will always find a way in..negative pressures...etc or maybe it is positive pressure..who knows.. Water always find a route though..Especially when it is very very cold...and in the right strategic spot...you know what I mean..LOL:D:eek:

one problem i think people have with the just wading in approach is we dont go deep enough. if you think you have an ankle leak and just go knee deep rest assured you will not find your leak till the first time you go chest deep on opening day. big difference in water pressure. fill it mark it with a crayon. cover inside and out with Goop or aquaseal and blowdryer it. try to get a little of the fabric off the rubber so it adheres. some would say you aint doin it right if you aint getting a little wet. i dont want to do it right then

Heck KT..I NEVER had an ankle leak in a paif of waders...It is ALWAYS in a more strategic spot...if'n ya know what I mean.. Seriously you are right..that's why you always fill 'em up with colored water..The water pressure inside WILL make 'em leak

Kinda neat and I might give it a try......sounds less messy than filling 'em up with water, but I'll definetely hold that plan as a backup!
