New old outboard I am going to get tomorrow!

Well I have to go tomorrow and pickup a 1970 evinrude 6hp fisherman. Needs a water pump and a fuel pump, although current owner has a external electric fuel pump rigged up and is able to run the thing. $75. I figure for $75 I can fix whatever is wrong with it, I also found out that the lady I had spoke with at parks and wildlife was FULL OF IT! If the outboard is under 10hp you don't have to register or title it....

Love it love it.

Well it's home I will probably post pics tomorrow if I remember. Fuel pump issue is due to a broken connector, I dunno about water pump/impeller yet. She is a little rough.... I like her....

Well, is it purring yet? Sounds like you got a good find.

Looks like the new impeller is gonna run me $11 to $14, the new piece for the fuel pump is going to run me around $77..... More than the outboard. Oh well. I will buy it probably mid summer depending on finances and install it.

Used outboards of that HP are running around $500, give or take, so you are still doing well.
As for the rough running, don't forget to drain and replace the oil in the lower unit, clean off (or replace) the spark plugs, and make sure if it has a fuel filter (usually a little metal mesh screen) that it is free of gunk.

But, you probably knew all of that........;)

Good luck!

GOB, even with a little invested, be nice unit to have....just keep in mind, anything at all you have to mix 2cy oil with...ONLY mix with high oct fuel...if mix with say 87, will not have much burn power and can lead to running/starting issues..this garbage gasoline they push on us now is the reason I have gathered lots of chain saws, weedwhackers, etc etc...be safe out there with it.
