The Pennsylvania Bucktails

At the start of the Civil War in 1861, President Lincoln called for 75,000 volunteers to surpress the rebellion. Here on the northern tier of Pennsylvania, Leiper Kane raised a regiment of volunteer infantry that was taken into Federal Service as the 42nd Regiment.

We have a reenactment group in Tioga County that has formed Company E (42nd Regt.) that was recruited right here in my home area. This year marks my 14th year as Corporal "Brasso" in my company. We participate in parades and do grave side rifle salutes for veterans. I like doing this living history with my fellow reenactors. This Saturday we will march in the Blossburg Coal Festival Parade. On June 16, we march in the Wellsboro Laurel Parade. In August we will have a Civil War encampment in a local campground to show camp life, close order drill and a mock "battle" with a Rebel Company.
