the 17hmr chamberd in the original 504 would more than likly hands down out shoot the 22lr.
the hmr seems to make most all rifles 1" and better at 100yds.
ive been thinkn alot on the matter and cant see getn the 504 when i could save some money and get the blued 77/22mag, then i have my 17hmr barrel that i can throw on it, that way i have the option to shoot 22cal or 17 if i want. not mention i have other ruger parts n peices floatn around that will come in handy blding another custom
in the long run i want save much money but id get more for the money im spending and have options to boot
