First off thank God you are both ok. Secondly. No I never let either of our dogs on the ice if I can stop it, meaning when hunting you can't always see where your dog may be. Even when I know the ice is thick enough to safely carry the weight, you never know about soft spots, and a bird retrieved can not replace you or the dog.
