I back off of max loads and have since having to replace two varmint barrels in one year. Gawd, those things aren't cheap. I try now to find out at what velocity my rifles shoot best and load to that level. I discovered my .22-250 for example is most accurate with 52gr. bullets at 3600fps. so that's the speed I load to even though I can crank them up a good bit more. I now do this with seven different rifles. It works for me. Best wishes.
