I have been shooting my Mini-14 since 1992. I know it is not as accurate as my HBAR Colt, but its just as much fun to take out.
I have used a Redfield 2 X 7 20mm scope for years, but recently I bought a rail that mates to the Ruger Scope mounts, and I am going to mount a red dot.
I will say one thing, its about as reliable as any rifle I have ever owned. I have had many failures with my various AKs, and ARs, but never with the Mini
