they just have leupolds name on them, im not suire who makes them,

from what ive heard the 8x42s are very good binos for the money spent on them, i may take this route.

http://www.riflescopes.com/departmen...binoculars.htm

from what ive read the 8x42s are the cats mow when glassing in low light conditions when compared to the 10 powers.

has to do with how our eyes take in the 4mm exit pupil comeing through the binocs

the exit pupil is the tiny circle of light you see when holding the binocs at arm lenght that circular is the actual amount of light leaving the binocs to enter our eyes. the bigger the better. our eyes pupil is 4mm-7mm depending in light and other factors

8x42 glass has a 5.25 exit pupil, 8x32s a 4mm pupil, 10x42s 4.2mm, 8.5x45s 5.3mm

the bigger the binocs exit pupil the easier it is on uour eyes while glassing more long periods of time.

8x50s are 6.25. dang near as big as our pupils. in low light.

theres alot to it. but the 8x42s and similar kinda rule over the any 10 poer optics when binos are conciderded. atleast in low light.
