When I lived in the NE we would go out to hunt Pat-ridge in the spruce woods. As we did not have a dog, it was just a wee bit interesting. But we were young and broke most of the time, so it was fun. We certinly did not put the species in jepordy.
The grouse is a tough hombre. I always marvel at them breaking tree limbs as they fly off. I have never seen another bird fly through tree limbs like a grouse.
