I guess maybe it depends on how much you shoot. I have ran well over 200 hundred rounds thru my 44mag, and its topped with a Bushnell. Would have loved the Aimpoint, but couldn't afford it at the time. So far, mine has held up through 3 seasons, with no problems. If you do go with a Red Dot, I would really try to find one with some magnification. As already stated, they are tougher to use in low light situations. It has become easier though, since taking Rocky's advise, and keeping both eyes open. The dot just appears on the target, never even see the scope.
