I thought I hadnt either until I started piecing it all together. I was heading back into the woods in November to retrieve a buck I had shot with my bow. On my way in I came head to head with what I thought was an odd looking red fox. Fast forward two months and I am in the very same area trapping. Matter of fact i set out there trying to snag a red since I "knew" there was one in the area.
Second night out I caught this fox. When I came up on him that morning I assumed before i ever got out of the truck it was the red I was after. Boy was i suprised when I got up close and took a look and realized it wasn't a red at all but a blonde phase grey. I didnt even know such an animal existed. Matter of fact its the only one I have ever seen to date.
Three days later we caught the smoke yote. Unfortunately for me the grey was lost to a freezer breakdown and the yote I sold to the fox pens not knowing any better. I figured 150 for a live yote was probably good as it would get so I took it. About a month later a lady taxidermist that saw the pic on the net offered me several hundred bucks for him. OUCH
As it turns out the color phase yotes arent all that uncommon or so I am told. I havent seen or caught another but you never know.
