The old Redfield mounts have the advantage of windage adjustment for those rifles that have mounting hole that are not close enough to alow the internal scope adjustment to zero a scope. There are other advantages that can be proven on paper as to why 1 mounting system is better that another, but in the field they all work the same. I can understand why more than 2 rings might be needed for some guns with very heavy recoil, but neather of my S&W 500`s need more than 2 rings. Scope mounts are like cars, thet will about all get you there, just how much do you want to spend.
