Oohhhhhhhhhhhhh....my bad there...I reckon I need to slow down and read a lil better. Well then, that map makes more sense then.
As fer as why there are bigger bucks taken in the mtns here, I do have that answer. VA is no longer an agri state. There are few farms, too few. What farms are left plant mostly soybean & corn and the rest is hay and/or have cattle or chickens on them.
The racks here get no help from us let me tell ya. So, what you see is what you get basically. In the mountains, the soil is like pottin soil, plum full of nutrients that the deer just don't have here on this side of the state. Not only that, but you caint run dogs on that side of the state either which mean that deer live longer. In fact, there were several counties in the southwest part of the state that was closed to deer hunting and have been for decades. They reopened most of them now, and good Lord at the monster bucks that were taken!!
The other thing related to deer and food plots/land/area I've noticed was that a deer in Michigan tastes NOTHING like a deer here. They taste like beef! It goes to show ya the difference, cause in MI they basically live off of farmland and crops. Neat stuff it all is.
