Okay, I'll try to keep it short.
I'm shooting .280 REM in Rem 700 BDL w/DET Mag and 24" pipe. Floated barrel and a light trigger job.
I've been playing with some loads using IMR 4350 and R19, nosler brass, WLR primers, and Accubond bullets. I like both powders for this load and both are shooting sub MOA at 100meters. Now to the question, well almost.
On a cold barrel my first shot hits exactly 2.7" high at 100meters with no left or right drift. My next two in the string are triangling under 1" usually about .6-.8" group. My first shot in the next string (cold barrel) is within .25" of my first shot of the previous string and if you ovelay the two targets it is basically a clover leaf between the two first shots.
I feel that this is what really matters in a hunting rifle being the first shot in a cold barrel under hunting conditions but a couple of buddies of mine think that I should be tightening up my strings somehow.
Should I start chasing/changing my loads trying to tighten up things or should I stay with what I'd like to think of as my first "pet load"?
