First off, I gotta say that I love foxhounds. They are as perty to hear run as they are to see run.

There are 2 major breeds of foxhound, English & American (or at least, one of these breeds is the one most likely in the pound anyway). There are 4 major strains of American foxhound and more that were introduced from those four later on.
The breed makes a big difference, esp. when it comes to personality. Without knowin, I'm sure he's a typical hound or a crossbreed. Foxhounds can get expensive and one that is in a pound is usually a crossbreed or one that some family in a 1 bedroom apt bought from a breeder, found he was hard to control and sent him off. The sad part about that is that once hounds get some age on em, it is difficult to change their ways. It takes ALOT of trainin and even more patience, but it can be done.

They can be very stubborn at times. Good natured though and they are very lovin dogs. Very loyal too. They all share 1 thing ...if ya keep em penned up for a long time and you go to turn em loose, they will be wild as bucks and wont listen to a word you say fer at least 20 minutes. People used to bring me hounds all the time with that "problem". Just make sure they git plenty of exercise and it goes away all on its own.
They are smarter than most folks give em credit fer too.
One thing I've noticed over the years about hounds in general...they have the urge to chase and hunt so deep down in their bein..that everythin else is just polish on the gold.
When yer on the hunt, that's when it shines too...they turn into precisioned machines.
