My advice would be to not hunt coyotes with a .22 rimfire. At 20 yards, you can kill one, but not easily. But your chances of having a coyote hang up at longer distances is very high. Can you resist the urge to shoot at 75 yards?

Coyotes are tough animals, and you should use a cartridge capable of clean, humane kills at all angles. Don't use a rimfire.

I use a .22-250 or larger when I hunt coyotes, and we use mouth blown calls of several types. Never used bait, although we have called near dead cows and pigs dragged into the bush by farmers.
